Holiday Market this weekend

Holiday season is here and market season as well as shopping season is in full swing. This past week we saw Black Friday, Small Biz Saturday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday. I'm exhausted just repeating those.  This weekend is the Etsy NY Handmade Holiday Cavalcade being held at Chelsea Market. 

I will be there selling aprons, tea towels, napkins and runners.  Of course there will be some festive table linens as well. 

Elf gnomes are happy to hop around table in this reversible runner with pom poms.

BEKKO APRON

I will also be debuting a new apron, the Bekko Vendor Apron.  Of course anyone can use it but I did design it with a craft vendor in mind. Pockets for pens, scissors, iPad, hammer loop for the jewelry designer or towel loop for the chef. and a itty bitty coin pocket.

The Bekko is made is a nice medium weight cotton and the pockets are double lined with a pop fabric.

The Cavalcade will be held this weekend December 5th and 6th at Chelsea Market.  The first 100 people will receive an awesome Goody Bag!  The doors open at 10.  You can find more info here!

Depression Era Aprons

There has been an apron that I have been seeing occasionally and I have always really liked the look.  It's on trend with overall fashion as well, a simple, clean line and airy garment.  Many people are calling it a Japanese Apron or Japanese Inspired.  Actually this popular style is a classic pinafore dating back to the depression era.

The above Pickford Apron, named for Mary Pickford, Hollywood actress of the time who looked completely picturesque while wearing an apron.  Or as my mother called this, a housecoat.  The purpose was to cover up your lovely attire while doing the dirty house work.

I recently began working with a new business which I am so excited about.  They would like to try a depression era housecoat, cross apron coverall.  I love doing research and love experimenting!

Tuesday's Apron - New designs for Lucky Girl Cafe

Last week on Tuesday's Apron, I posted about a new client I was designing some aprons for but I couldn't yet post the completed project.  The client, Lucky Girl Cafe, in Arizona had their event so I'm happy to show you the aprons I created for them. 

The client was happy, I am happy to say! My favorite part was that I was given 4 colors to work with and the image of their logo.  Quite a gamble but  I followed my design instinct.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.  I have learned in life and my career as a designer stick to your gut!

I love these aprons. Everything about them is a nod to homemade, handmade, and free form embroidery with the sewing machine. 

These aprons are from a little shop called Leo's Dry Goods.  The founder of Leo's is Shari, with a decorative painter background.  Her towels and aprons are now painted with thread. 

It's difficult to embroider, never mind embroider on a machine with no set pattern or control.  Looking at the fine lines of these drawings amazes me.  

Sewn on canvas or flour sack towels, these utility towels are super absorbent not just cute!

Coming up....Local Markets

Spring is here and I love it! The weather cool at night warm to hot in the day.  This is my kind of weather. And with great weather comes street fairs.  There are always quite a few every weekend in New York City.  As a maker I do participate in a few.  This weekend will be my first fair for the the summer season.  Clear view Cinemas also runs street fairs.  This Saturday, May 30th, they will be holding a street fair on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan.  However, they have contacted Etsy and have created an Etsy Block.  When I first heard this I was so excited! Usually street fairs can sell a lot of undesirable stuff, cheap tee shirts, bad socks, etc... Etsy will be covering streets 75th and 76th on 3rd Ave.   The fair itself will be from 66th to 86th Street.

I've been a busy bee working on picnic blankets, napkins, aprons and tea towels.

Most of these items are in my etsy shop but those one of the kind items usually are exclusive to markets. 

June 6, Saturday is the Etsy Craft Fair in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn. Since 2010, Etsy has hosted a Craft Party, a global celebration of making and meeting, creativity and community.  For the first time at the headquarters which is in Brooklyn,  they will be selling locally made goods.  Etsy NY team members were given the opportunity to apply.  I applied and was accepted!  Very excited about this.  Such a great opportunity for me.    So come craft, create, meet and shop!

And all summer long traceytoole products will be in the EtsyNY booth at Celebrate Brooklyn.  This is the third season and it's such a fantastic venue!  Music, movies and art.  Some are free and some are benefit concerts.
